Chasing 134 to win, Pakistan got off to a poor start and lost K Akmal in the second over. With the fall of this wicket, Pakistan top order crumbled and wickets started to fell one after the other. Pakistan were in trouble with scorecard reading 58/5 in 9.4 overs. Salman Butt was the only batsman who offered some resistance and scored a brilliant 67 not out, but his heroics went in vain as the defending champs lost by 1 run. They needed 2 runs off the last bowl to win the match but Rehman stroked in the hands of deep square leg for a simple catch thus ending the match and even the hopes for semi finals.

In an thrilling encounter between defending champs Pakistan and Australia, the defending champions suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Watson and Warner gave them a perfect start and scored 51 for the first wicket partnership. Watson was the player for Australia as he hammered Pakistan bowlers and scored a brilliant 81 off just 49 balls. He was well supported by Hussey who scored 53 off 29 balls. The rest of the batting line collapsed but Australia was still able to post a huge total of 191 in 20 overs.

Pakistan started disastrously as they lost K Akmal on the very first ball of the match. This severe jolt pressurized the entire batting line up of the defending champions as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Though all the other batsmen got some start but none could convert it into a big score and thus eventually they fell short of the target by 34 runs.

The defending champions Pakistan started the quest to retain the title on a positive note as they defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs. Choosing the bat first, Pakistan got off to a flying start with both openers scoring 73 each. Bangladeshi bowlers looked totally clueless against the mighty Pakistanis and thus Pakistan was able to post a total of 172/3 in 20 overs.

Bangladeshi openers once again faltered as both the openers were back in pavilion with the scorecard reading 31/2 in 5.3 overs. but then Mohammad Ashraful and Shakib Al Hasan gave Pakistan a scare and tried to upset the defending champions with a superb partnership which took them to 122 before Shakib Al Hasan got out. Dual Blow To Pakistan World Cup Preparations

In a dual blow to the preparations for T20 World Cup 2010, Pakistan’s two superstar Umar Gul and all-rounder Yasir Arafat have been ruled out due to fitness problems

“We have recommended the names of fast bowler Mohammad Sami and another young pace bowler Mohammad Irfan to the board Chairman for final approval as replacements for the World Cup,” chief selector Mohsin Khan told reporters on Sunday.

Yasir Arafat Ruled Out of T20 World Cup

pakistan cricketIn a jolt to Pakistan team, all-rounder Yasir Arafat has been ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup due to a calf injury.

In an interview to a Pakistan newspaper, Skipper Shahid Afridi said “Yasir Arafat is out because of the calf injury. He told us that he was not fit, after which we had to take a decision.”

When talking about replacement of Arafat, Afridi said “Shahzaib is very much in the picture for us. “He is a good pinch-hitter and could be useful for us in the West Indies.”
